Volunteer Pilots
The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) has a program for volunteer pilots, primarily associated with their Young Eagles initiative. Here are some key points about the volunteer pilot program:
Young Eagles Volunteer Pilots
- Purpose: Volunteer pilots introduce young people, ages 8-17, to the world of aviation by providing free introductory flights.
- Requirements:
- Be a current EAA member.
- Hold an appropriate airman’s certificate (sport pilot or greater).
- Possess a current medical certificate (if applicable).
- Be current to carry passengers in the aircraft you plan to use.
- Have aircraft passenger liability insurance with $100,000 per seat coverage.
- Complete EAA’s Youth Protection Training and background check.
- Guidelines:
- Conduct flights in an aircraft that is in airworthy condition.
- Ensure all flights are conducted in Day VFR conditions.
- Complete a Young Eagles registration form before the flight, signed by the pilot and a parent or legal guardian.
Eagle Flights Volunteer Pilots
- Purpose: Volunteer pilots introduce adults to aviation through free introductory flights and informal mentoring.
- Requirements: Similar to those for Young Eagles pilots, including being a current EAA member and holding the appropriate certifications.
